General Assembly CFPA-E: Advancing Safety through Commitment and Technology!

This year's General Assembly of the CFPA-E (Confederation of Fire Protection Associations Europe) took place from 31.05. - 02.06.2023 in Wallisellen at the Swiss Safety Center. As host of the CFPA-E General Assembly, we had the pleasure to experience three unforgettable days that showed us how dedicated people and breakthrough technologies can advance the safety of our community.

The first day of the General Assembly started with interesting presentations from CTIF (International Association of Fire and Rescue Services) and FEU (Federation of the European Union Fire Officer Associations). The presentations of these renowned organizations showed the importance of international cooperation and exchange of best practices to develop fire departments and protect communities.

Another highlight of the day was the demonstration of the in-house sprinkler system. The attendees were able to see live how this works in an emergency. The participants ended the day with a dinner at the local fire station.

The second day of the General Assembly brought a variety of innovations. The attendees were taken into the world of virtual reality and had the opportunity to experience an impressive fire model. The immersive experience demonstrated the tremendous possibilities this technology offers to simulate fire scenarios and take preventive measures even before a real emergency occurs.

Another focus of the day included evacuation planning. Participants gained valuable insight into the challenges that can arise in safely evacuating buildings and were guided through best practices and innovative solutions that can protect people's lives in dangerous situations.

At the General Assembly, Dr. Elisabetta Carrea was elected as a new successor to former CFPA-E Chairman Jesper Ditlev (DBI Denmark). With the new position, she brings the chairmanship back to Switzerland after more than 11 years. A new director was also elected during the General Assembly: John Briggs (FPA UK) will succeed Tommy Arvidsson, who will retire, as of 01.01.2024.

In the evening, the participants could enjoy dinner with a fantastic view over Zurich in the Prime Tower and duly celebrate the retiring Chairman and Director.

The third and last day of the General Assembly promised to be a very special highlight with a tour of Zurich Airport. The tour offered a unique look behind the scenes and attendees were given exclusive insights into the state-of-the-art security systems and procedures that make the airport one of the safest places in the world.

The CFPA-E General Assembly was not only an event filled with information, innovation and technological advancements, but also an experience that continues to heed us to keep our collective safety at the forefront. The presentations, demonstrations and conversations reminded us that we have a responsibility as a company, as a community and as a society.
